Sept 12-13: Kelowna to Golden, BC
We are sitting in Golden, BC, in a cottage built in the 1930s (part of a motel), having just finished an amazing barbecued salmon, veggie and curried rice dinner cooked by Rob. It’s dark enough now that the mountains are only silhouetted out the window, but they looked pretty fantastic earlier.
We drove from Kelowna this afternoon, after a show last night at Doc Willoughby’s with our local faves Nixie. It was a really good night - we had people up and dancing right at the start for You Coming Down, and again at the end when we did the “extended dance remix” version. (I guess that’s our dance hit… who wants to do a remix?)
We presented a challenge to Nixie for the next time we play together: we will cover one of their songs and they will cover one of ours. They have a new album coming out. We’d better have a listen and get to work…
Right now we’re all pretty wiped - it was a late night, not because we played that late, but somehow every time we go to Doc’s we end up staying until closing. I’m a bit of a zombie and not quite sure how coherent this is, but should be back on track tomorrow.
Oh! We need to make an introduction here. Everybody, this is Rob Sheldrick, our new drummer!
Rob hails from St. Catharines originally, and has been in Vancouver for just a few years. On top of being a mighty fine drummer, he happens to also be a mighty fine chef.
Tomorrow we’ll drive to Calgary (no show), and then Tuesday we’re off to Medicine Hat for our show at the Ottoman Lounge. Right now, I am going to sleep.
