Join us for Funderwear 2008!

Our next show will be at Funderwear 2008, where admission is (new & clean!) underwear or socks to support Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside charities. Read on for more:

THE 3rd ANNUAL FUNDERWEAR
With Dan Mangan, Arctic, Hannah Georges and Christer
Dec.12 @ The Biltmore Cabaret – Doors @ 9:00
Admission: New Underwear or Socks or $10

The 3rd annual Funderwear is the brainchild of Rob Perron of File Under: Music. Rob came up with the idea after an experience during holiday season 4 years ago. “ I handed out undies from a bargain bin to the downtown eastside community on Christmas day and the response was overwhelming. I knew we could expand on that idea”. This year, Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre, and Salvation Army Harbourlight will do the handing out and Vancouver music lovers can help out by bringing in new underwear and socks for Vancouver’s less fortunate.

File Under: Music has pulled together an eclectic night of performances by musicians whom are putting Vancouver on the map as a hotbed for great Canadian talent.

Dan Mangan
Mangan has a great appreciation for power of words and a deep admiration for writers of all kinds. Not one to stay safely inside the singer/songwriter box, he has collaborated with spoken word artist Shane Koyczan, performed alongside acclaimed storyteller Ivan Coyote and Canadian hype machines Patrick Watson, The Acorn, Elliott Brood and DJ Champion. Dan has had a busy year on the road touring Canada, Australia, and the United States. He will be happy to be home as he is currently recording with acclaimed producer John Critchley in Toronto.

Arctic
Haunting, moody and hypnotic, ARCTIC conjures up chilly acoustic northern landscapes and intensely rich, layered space rock that’s been called “acoustic trance", “psychedelic folk” and “Metric meets Neil Young". Always seeking contrast, ARCTIC is sometimes a solo project, sometimes a trio, never exactly the same from one show to the next. In either form it combines diverse influences in unexpected ways: progressive rock, jazz, industrial rock merge with ambient textures and acoustic singer/songwriter melodies to create something fresh, unconventional and intriguing.

Hannah Georges
Hannah Georgas is a quirky, highly-sensitive, whimsical, and yet extremely serious Vancouver-based singer/ songwriter who will one day win over Jack Black and take his hand in marriage. Influenced by a broad scope of musical talent - from Billy Corgan and his melancholy lyrics to Janet Jackson and her strong sexual desires - Hannah developed her own style, which she continues to fascinate audiences with. She has played a range of Canadian venues, from local cafes in Victoria to the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, and drawn a steady fan-base along the way. Hannah recently won The Music BC Songbird West Singer/Songwriter Competition for 2008. Hannah opens up her heart and soul with her music and seizes those pure moments you only wish you could describe. Her memorable songs will captivate your heart, put a smile on your face, and a tap in your toe

Christer
She totes a tiny MacBook and massive talent, destined to vivify Canada’s electropop music scene; Christer has arrived! The Vancouver-based laptop princess is humble, describing her songs as uncomplicated and accessible, which were originally laid down in a one-room music studio and sampled from basic beat software. At the beginning of 2008 Christer took her laptop and stormed Vertical Studios with producer Tom Dobrzanski (Hey Ocean!, Said The Whale). Their combined talent layered the beats and elevated Christer’s vocals in all the right places, giving birth to Techna, an imaginative album of deeply addictive dance hits.
