Determined Republicans yet again asked to open the Alaska Wildlife National Refuge to oil drilling. Ironically, the money earned from the oil would supposedly be used to fund "green" fuels, thus destroying the environment in order to save it. From CNN:

The Republican bill, sponsored by Rep. Devin Nunes of California, would open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for drilling and use the proceeds from royalty payments to fund production tax credits for new fuels made from liquefied coal or biomass, according to The Wall Street Journal.

High oil prices are causing agitation all around the world, and more countries are looking for a quick fix. In another part of the North, Greenland is now exploring the idea of drilling for oil in the sensitive Arctic Sea. Already at risk from global warming, the environmental impact of oil spills could be disastrous.
