Questioning the seal hunt
Every spring, the Canadian seal hunt begins in the seal whelping patches of Canada’s Atlantic Coast. Hundreds of thousands of seals are clubbed or shot each year, mainly for their pelts; a young seal's pelt can fetch up to $70.
While humane regulations exist, the massive scale of the hunt cannot possibly allow for each animal slaughtered to suffer a clean and painless death. Is fashion truly worth the cruel killing of these wild animals?
